Greetings!
My name is Daniel Morgan, aka the MadScot, and I’m the proprietor of MadScot LeatherWerx and WoodWerx. We're still working on this website but I was too excited about it to wait! So if you have any problems that you can't get something to work, shoot me an email at Daniel@MadScotWerx.com and I'll make sure the webmaster fixes it! I'm going to be too busy working with my leather and wood!
My interest in wood working started in my high school shop classes. It was when I made my first turned wood bowl that I fell in love with working with wood.
With leather, years later I was helping a friend make covers for his medieval axes and scabbards for his swords. He had several books on leather working, which I borrowed, then taught myself how to work with leather. Many years before, in one of my shop classes I did work on some leather tooling, so I had some previous instruction.
Everything that I've learned I've taught myself or sought out experienced craftsmen for tips and help. I am active in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) and as a result, have found an outlet for my creative side.
I found myself researching history and how things were made in medieval times. I started making things that I needed for my own use, like pouches, sporrans, and the like.
Then I started receiving requests to make those items for others. The same thing happened with the wood working; I made couple of projects for personal use in the SCA, and then began to receive requests to make those items for others.
Well, I figure if I'm going to be making things for others, I may as well get paid for it. So, here I am.
Oh, and check out my blog!
